ABOUT THE ARTIST

Being in my studio frees me from conformity, a lifetime of having to do what’s expected. The strong addiction to making marks is easily remedied with strips of paper, chalk, ink, pens, pastels, crayons and paint.

The need to draw happens frequently, like a child, easily excited and always seduced with a handful of colourful, waxy, chalky textures. I’m happiest working energetically, scraping and sliding over large areas of paper, the very act converges (nearly all) my senses. Like cooking, organising, moving, manipulating and creating it’s about making something I find visually appealing and at times a simple uncontained scribble.

I’m not fussy about my subject, its instinctive mark making, often a mix of humanity, humour and sensuality; people sleeping, dancing, pretty much any food, wine and comfortable domestic scenes that creep out of my dreamy ‘magazine world’!

Heightened artistic expression is borne out of a life of rich relationships, post childbirth, mid romance and from looking closely.
